The autoformation of DNA from DNA is called replication.
- When DNA is converted into DNA it is called autocatalytic in nature.
- When DNA is converted into other biomolecules like mRNA then it is called heterocatalytic in nature.
- DNA replication is semiconservative in nature.
- DNA replication was first discovered by Watson and crick.
- DNA replication is the process of copying a cell’s entire genome before it divides.
- It is a bidirectional process.
- The new stand will be developed from 5’ to 3’ so that the template strand direction is 3’ to 5’.
Prokaryotic Replication
Prokaryotes have 1 ORI (Origin of replication).
Eukaryotic Replication
Requirements for DNA replication (Eukaryotic Replication)
- DNA template.
- Enzymes: Helicase(for unbinding), SSBP-Single strand building protein,(for destabilizing the bond) Primase (for generating a RNA), DNA polymerase, Ligase, Topoisomerase.
Steps of replication in eukaryotic cells.
- DNA polymerase can not start DNA synthesis.
- DNA depends on RNA polymerase to help start the DNA synthesis.
- After Attaching the primease, DNA polymerase started his work. It is now synthesising the DNA, and developed the full base of purine and pyrimidine.
